Delia, Darling
Okay, Mother and Father have undertaken the daunting task of the Delia Christmas Cake. So far the ingredients have cost them 45.00. I cannot wait to see how this turns out!
I'm sure the cake will be delicious! Especially if it's Delia..I was supposed to make mine this weeked but discovered I was 200g short of raisins! :) Sarah
Oh my goodness...this is so English...my grandfather was English and every year for Christmas we had one of these. Back then I am sure it did not cost that much!
I've made two using Delia's recipe card in Waitrose. Not sure how your ingredients came to £45??? I used organic ingredients as well but bought my own, not the Delia ready-made packs. Is it those that are so expensive? I worked my ingredients to £15 then yet to buy marzipan and icing, maybe another £5? It smells yummy though! Hen xxx
Wow, that's alot of money but it sure is a pretty cake. With regards to your previous post, I bring most of my geraniums in and I have about 12! I have nowhere really to put them so they line the windowsills upstairs.
Easy Peasy Christmas cake, absolutly delicious and cheaper:
1kg (2.2lb mixed dried fruit soaked overnight in 500mls of strong black coffee (4-5 tespoons) Next morning add 2 cups self raising flour (or two cups plain flour and 3 teaspoons baking powder) and 1 (just 1) 200gm block of chopped dark chocolate. Mix together, bake in lined tin of choice at 170 C. (or approx 350 F) for abour 1 1/2 hours. Enjoy!
