Porch Rippling ~ An Update on Crocheting the World's Largest Ripple Blanket

I have spent a few days here and there doing some Porch Crochet. The problem is it cannot be too warm as the darn thing is getting fairly large and hot. The last few days seem to be cooling down so that has allowed for some serious rippling. The shot below is the "Pretend it is Totally Done" shot.

This next shot is the "Holy crap, that is all I've done?" shot.

Twenty-four stripes thus far. I have been using Paton's Merino and the most lovely Cascade 220. Really mad at myself for stupidly ordering only four skeins when it was on sale for just over $4.00. It is now 7 or 8 dollars. One colour takes me about an hour. That's while watching television. If this or that is too interesting, it may take longer.

I am also trying to quickly knit some umbilical cord hats and gum-nut hats for a baby just born at my husband's office. We will see how those turn out considering I haven't knit in months. Rippling is all consuming.

Wow, it IS big.
I love the colours. It will be very cheery and warm in the dead of winter (which we will not speak of again so soon)
I think I need a blanket project to work on in the evenings now. It will grow larger and cover me as the nights get progressively cooler.

Knitting is like riding a bike.

That's one huge blanket!. As you get to the last few yards you won't need any heating on! Think of the fuel you'll save - of course the rest of the household will have to freeze! t.x

Your ripple blanket looks wonderful! I love the colors too, so clean and refreshing.

I've been back to my knitting these past few weeks, trying to knit more fingerless gloves, they are selling in one of the shops I work in like crazy, I can't keep ahead of the demand!!!

Happy crocheting....

Someone asked on the last post and I'd like to know too. What kind of camera do you shoot with?

Girls:

You are all so terribly sweet. Thank you so much for the blanket love.

And thank you for the wonderful comments on my photos. I'm such an amateur and know so very little about digital photography. I use the Canon Powershot A560, which seems to work well for the tekkie challenged like me. A few tips I have learned along the way (and I am by no means any kind of pro, just these work well for me).

~basically you never use the flash indoors, it gives that shine thing on all the pictures. There is usually a button that turns it off (mine is a lighting bolt)
~take pictures on an angle, not head on. Things just seem to look better that way
~try to get level with the subject. Pictures taken from above don't seem to capture the subjects as well.
~go to google and type in your camera model name then "tips", you will be surprised at how many hits you get that may be helpful.

I'm thinking I should have written a post about this ;)

Hope that helps a wee bit.

Thanks again,

Lisa xo

PS

This is a very reasonably priced camera. Online you can find it for as little as $119.00 if you really do some digging.

Ooh, I just love your ripple blanket. I saw one a bit similar on Posie gets Cosy a while back. I'm due to start my knitting and crochet course on 23 Septmeber so it could be a long while until I get my own ripple blanket! Yours looks stunning though, keep going 'cos I want to see the end result...!

Oh my goodness, those colours are just fabulous. I've been wanting to begin a blanket, but cannot decide on a colour combination. I hope you don't mind, but I may have to use your inspiration - it's one of the best I've seen. It won't look like yours, as I'll be doing granny squares.
Thanks for popping over. Your blog is simply lovely.
